How would you describe this space? Neutral room? Orange room? Modern? Traditional? In a word: exquisite. The drapery panel fabric, Chinois Palais from Schumacher, have a vertical repeat of 131.5" ! You need 11 foot ceilings to accommodate the full pattern. If only…

Junior League of Hartford Show House 2012 — AFTER

I've been remiss in maintaining my blog — I plead the craziness of summer scheduling! Here are the after pictures from the Junior League of Hartford Show House, photographed by the talented Michael Partenio.

The space was called "It's a Boy's Life". From this angle, you can see the ceiling and wall tent I created. The panels are tied together with leather cord through the antique bronze grommets. The ikat drapery set the color palette for the room. The neutral canvas panels and wall color are a calm backdrop. The custom queen bed coverlet is denim, similar in tone to the animal print on the plush arm chair. The glass drop lamp is a fun shape and doesn't take up much visual space.

Opposite the reading nook, at the front of the house, a small dormer was designed as a micro work space. The drop-down desk is large enough for a laptop. Even an adventurous boy needs a place to do homework! The drawer pulls I designed for the built-in drawers were a huge hit — literally, sticks from my yard, courtesy of Winter Storm Alfred! On the walls, favorite quotes from Tolkein and St. Augustine speak to this boy's love of travel.

A close up of the custom bed with wing headboard and bedding. These pieces could easily fit into any adult master bedroom! (missing from the picture is the custom bolster, seen in the next non-professional picture).

Opposite the bed, the custom mural by Patrick Ganino expands the boy's vista and the boundaries of the bedroom!

So much fun to look out of the tent at this vista!

This Junior League of Hartford Show House boy's bedroom was so much fun to design! I hope you had a chance to visit the show house — it will be 3 more years before you have another chance!

On Wednesday morning, I traveled to WTNH — ABC studio in New Haven with Junior League of Hartford President Wendy Avery to tape a segment on Connecticut Style featuring the Show House! We had a wonderful time on set with the lovely hosts Steve Parker and Teresa LaBarbera. Many thanks to WTNH for featuring the Show House and highlighting the programs that benefit from Show House dollars.
