Junior League of Hartford Show House 2012 — BEFORE

There is so much great media coverage coming out about the Junior League of Hartford Show House 2012, it's almost hard to remember how bad the before pictures looked! And believe me, the pictures don't do justice to the amount of dirt, bugs and general disarray the majority of the spaces contained. My third floor bedroom space was not as bad as most, but still needed an amazing amount of work! See these before shots? Yikes!

Notice the floor? The previous rug pad was down for so long, it disintegrated and stuck to the floor! That white-ish rectangle is waffle-weave bits, melded into the paint. Ugh!

summertime, summertime

“It’s summertime, and the living is easy” or so Sam Cooke assures us. The demands of a new garden, the lure of vacation, a child’s schedule is flux – along with enough work to fill every day – leaves me to doubt Cooke’s words. And so you, my Dear Readers, are left without a new post.  The ideas are swirling in my brain, awaiting their chance at freedom.

Real life connections trump those in the virtual world every time. While I do treasure my virtual connections, the immediacy of those around me each day in the flesh cannot be ignored. I am hopeful August will afford me the opportunity to share some of my summer finds and adventures.

For today, I leave you with these two events to look forward to:

Designer Spaces & Market Places returns for a second year, and it's going to be amazing! Save the date for our Passport Party:

SAVE THE DATE! Spaces & Places Passport Party

And this, spotted at WestFarms, made my heart do a little jig!

anthropologie coming soon to westfarms!

But don't wish away the summer — go out into the world, enjoy, and be sure to laugh!

Go ahead and laugh!!

something lovely…spotted at 1stdibs

We all know ceramic garden stools have been the rage in recent years, and definitely with good cause. They fit indoors and out, and stand up to major wear and tear. Now here's something just a little different: 1950's set of four Italian terra cotta pumpkin stools. Aren't they lovely for the right patio? Perfectly sized for seating or add a round glass top for a smart little end table.

architectural digest home show 2011: glass artisans

The AD Home Show MADE section featured some 150+ individual artists and designers of limited edition and/or one-of-a-kind objects and furnishings. There were an amazing number of creative people here! I saw numerous glass artisans, and each had something special to show. Consider these:

An extraordinary wall installation of glass "pebbles" from Bueno Glass. Notice the pendant lighting on the right — fabulous!

Blown glass pendants from Jamie Harris Studio LLC are delightfully irregular:

Graceful, traditional shapes excite with delicious translucent color from Hartford Art School alum Moshe Bursuker:

This is just a sampling of the amazing glass artisans on display the the AD Home Show. The show features such talent — be sure to attend next year if you missed it.
